How the Nantwich Buddies started...

At the beginning of lock down, RedShift Radio had to abruptly stop preparations for our long -awaited relaunch on 1st April as a Community Podcast Network (previously we were broadcasting 70+ hours of live online radio).

So, to keep us busy and make good use of our strong community network, we swung into action and set up a volunteer support network to help households that needed to isolate.

The first 40 volunteers came from our immediate network, family and friends within the first three weeks. We began working with Cheshire East's People Helping People team who received the calls from the general public asking for help, mainly with shopping and prescription collection.

In our first year we supported over 260 households in Nantwich and the surrounding rural areas with over 130 volunteers.

Although the lockdowns are over, our volunteers are still busy supporting isolated and lonely people, helping people get out and about and, until recently, marshalling at the vaccination clinics in Nantwich. We also provide a small volunteer transport service for people who need help getting to appointments.

In October 2021 we started to run the first of our social groups, the Happiness Hub, and recently the Community Stage has started. We're always looking for more ideas and people to help with these!

If you'd like to join us as a volunteer, please send an email with your phone number and we'll call you back for a chat.
